Your First Memory in Life

Do you remember yours? Of course you do.

Some claim to remember a few months into life when they were in their crib. I like to call those people liars. Some have a poor memory and remember their 8th birthday and nothing before that. Whatever it is, it’s usually something random or quite memorable, right?

Mine was a happy medium between being in the crib and 2nd grade.

I was in preschool and I was on the playground while another kid was on the tire swing. (Very underrated part of the playground, if I do say myself). I was spinning the kid around the tire swing, probably unrelenting and we were called by our teacher to come in from out on the playground. Naturally I dipped out, leaving the kid to his own devices to get out of the spinning tire. (I like to usually throw in at the end of the story that he threw up to add some flair to the end of the story, but that could be/probably is stretching the truth.)

My mom is displeased that my first memory wasn’t something grand or spectacular like when I apparently met Mickey down in Disneyworld. (Sorry Mickey, I’d rather have my first memory spinning a kid around and leaving them over meeting you.)

I feel like the first memory in your life is always either something traumatic or ridiculous. Hopefully it’s ridiculous versus traumatic. Long story short, does anyone have a first memory that is something really normal? I ate an apple. I played with a train. Usually that mundane memory would be followed with a story about how you choked on the apple core, got the Heimlich and lived to tell the tale today.
