On The Subway: “I can do this & I am going to do this”

Setting: Subway (probably 6 train)

Thoughts In Head: Say “Hi”, Say a cute thing or two + Get her Digits

How Conversation Is Going to Go:

Me: “Oh hi there”

Her: “Hi”

Me: “So I never do this, but just wanted to say, you’re delightful, a ray of sunshine on a dreary day.”

Her: “So kind of you to say. You’ve said that to 20 other girls today.”

Me: “Nonsense. Only 19.”

Her: “haha. You’re funny.”

Me: “Oh stop, I’m blushing. Ok, don’t stop.”

Me: “My stop is next. Can I get your number so I can text you a haiku some time?”

Her: “I thought you’d never ask.”

Me: “Yeah, I didn’t think I would either.”

Her: “Here it is…xxx.xxx.xxxx

Me: “Be on the lookout for that poem. (wink)

Her: “Looking forward to it.”

(I shuffle off the train, give a smooth look over the shoulder and a casual wave bye)

What Actually Happens:

I get up the nerve to at least get in her general vicinity.

She is intoxicating.

Obviously, I give the light stare, trying to get her attention. She ensconced in her Kindle. (Damn you Kindle!)

I think of dropping the, “so whatcha reading?” or “I have many leather bound books,” but think she’ll think that’s lame.

I step forward to get closer, still mind racing with potential phrases that I might drop.

Boom, like a ton of bricks, “I’m veryyy hungry. I need medicine because I have Hepatitis A, B, C + D. Please help me. Anything would be helpful. Thank you and have a blessed day.”

Are you kidding me?

The homeless person comes through the middle of the train breaking up the avenue to the apple of my eye.

(33rd Street Stop) Rush of people on and off train.

I just see a brunette pony tail bobbing from side to side in the middle of the sea of bodies outside of the train, as we pull away to 28th.

Another one bites the dust, without a word uttered.
