Sorry for the hiatus. I’ve been traveling. I’ve been working. I’ve been making memories with people.
That being said, there is something that people say and it kind of irks me.
“I only did it for myself.” “I don’t worry about what other people think, I’m going to do me.”
Come on, really? We all want recognition for things. No one wants to live a life where they are constantly having to tell themselves that they provide worth to this world. No one wants to walk around being like, “I’m great, because I say I am.” Or, “What you did was spectacular, Brad, you know why? Because you just told yourself it was.”
We ALL want someone to tell us we did a great job. Some don’t need as much positive reinforcement or “love” as others (I’m someone who needs a good amount of coddling and many positive affirmations that what I did was exemplary), but they need some nonetheless.
So next time the following scene unfolds, I want you to call out the person:
Them: Did you just see what I did?
You: Yeah, it was pretty mediocre.
Them: Really do you think that?
You: Yeah, I didn’t think it was anything special.
Them: Well whatever, I think what I did was pretty amazing and my opinion is the only one that counts.
(Here’s where you tell them how it is)
You: Yeah, right. You want me to show you some love for that pretty standard achievement.
Them: No I could care less. I mean, I got me and that’s all that matters.

All this being said, find someone who will tell you what you did was pretty special. We all need at least one of those. I personally like to surround myself with hundreds to keep the self-esteem up. To each their own.

With all due respect, I don’t really “buy” that
Much love on this Tuesday,
Brad
