Humility

It’s really one of the things I need out of all friends. If you’re not humble, you don’t have a chance to be my friend. Some of my friends are a big deal, they make beaucoup bucks. Would you know it? Absolutely not.

Don’t even try to be my friend if you want to brag about yourself, your grandiose accomplishments or the amount of money that you make. You’re talking to the wrong audience.

As I continue to explore more and more of the Big Apple and meet a plethora of folks from a myriad of backgrounds, one thing that usually comes up is occupation. What do you do? It’s the most simple question to ask someone and it also can tell you a lot about someone.

I would venture to say the most valuable of those learnings is the level of someone’s humility.

If they respond with: “I’m ______ at ______, have great employees and am quite content. Have a real passion for my job.” - That’s a good egg, most likely, unless they’re being a sarcastic prick.

If they respond with: “I’m a _____ at ______. The pay is great and yes I work some long hours, but I think that within X years, I should be _____ position. Really look forward to the time when I can have my team of X people.” - This person is a tool and I’m not talking about Black and Decker. They also are the antithesis of humble and aren’t going to be friend of mine anytime soon.

Need I say more?

Hug and a manshake,

Brad
